Hey all and welcome to another Adesaw DD! The weather in Japan is sweltering, so while I'm hiding from the sun there's been plenty of time to work on Initiation. These last few weeks have been very heavy on the programming side, and extremely light on the story-writing so we'll be talking about gameplay mechanics again today. Most of the story writing will be on hold until the foundations of the mechanics are laid -- it's hard to write something when you don't know the format of storytelling your game engine will require! So after the jump we'll be talking about the general daily game loop your character will experience as he walks the hallowed pathways of Adesaw University... A Rudimentary Day/Night Cycle
Unlike the first Adesaw game "Prologue", which took place over the span of a single night, Initiation's plot will occur during your first semester at Adesaw University. To emulate the flow of time in the game, Initiation will introduce a rudimentary day/night cycle, which will break the gameplay into 3 (and eventually 4) distinct game-time periods. Throughout each day, you'll experience a morning time, an afternoon time, and an evening time. Each of these times will offer distinctly different activities you need to do, as follows:
Speaking of weekends, this day/night cycle will of course be part of the calendar system which tracks your overall progress at Adesaw. That is another topic for another week however! Stay tuned for more DDs and see you all next Thursday!
